In addition to visits from Pastor Steve, our shut-ins receive regular visits from volunteers who share Holy Communion and conversation.

If would like to volunteer to visit with shut-ins or you know of someone who would appreciate a visit, please let Trish or Wendy know.

Care Calls have begun between our
first pair of Care Call Buddies! This program
has been implemented to provide
a way for people living alone to have
phone contact with another person daily
as a safety measure.

Soon we hope to begin Care
Calls with a second pair of buddies. If you are interested
in participating, contact Trish or Wendy.

Dear Friends at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church:

“Saludos” or greetings from your missionaries in Argentina. Kate and I are writing to you
because as we began planning our 2011-2012 home assignment, we realized that we will
only be able to visit about half of the more than forty congregations that sponsor us. We
are very disappointed that we will not be able to visit your congregation this time around
because we need to prioritize congregations that we have never visited. This is a difficult
decision for us to make. Many of you have been sponsoring us for four and even six
years and it has been a joy and a pleasure to visit you in past years. We give thanks to
God for your faithful support! A visit to your congregation will be a priority for us in 2013-
14.

We share the following information to give you a fuller sense of the time crunch we are
facing with our home assignment. Our children’s school calendar and mid-February 2012
work responsibilities in Argentina are limiting our home assignment to less than sixty
days. School in the Southern Hemisphere starts in late February and ends in mid-
December. In February we lead a retreat for the Young Adult in Global Mission (YAGM)
program. Besides visiting sponsoring congregations, during home assignment we are
also asked to get medical check-ups, meet with colleagues to plan next year’s work, and
lead a workshop at an ELCA Glocal mission event in North Carolina. Additionally, we
make time to visit with our siblings and parents who then care for Emily (11) and Matthew
(8) while we travel.

We have entered our seventh year of service as ELCA missionaries in South America.
What a privilege it has been to participate in God’s mission to and for the world in this
way! It has been deeply transformative and we pray that our presence and work in the
region has helped to strengthen the mission and ministry of our companion churches in
Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru and Chile. We are also thankful for the opportunity to
accompany ELCA young adults through the YAGM program. Without your support we
simply would not have been able to engage in these ministries. The image that stays with
us always is that of the Emmaus walkers. You all, the two of us, all of us together, walking
along and encountering the stranger in our midst who challenges us, lifts our spirits
and opens our eyes to Christ’s Kingdom project. Together we become the hands and feet
serving God´s reconciling mission to the world!

Please drop us a note and let us know how you are doing.

Blessings,
David and Kate
