Readings for the Day:
Exodus 16:1-17:  A food crisis becomes a faith crisis for the Israelites in the wilderness.  The hungry people forget God’s saving work in the exodus, and they wish for the food they had in Egypt.  Nevertheless, God miraculously meats their needs, with manna for bread and quail for meat.
Colossians 3:15-17:  Life in Christ includes a radical reorientation of our values.  We are to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts.  We are to do everything in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
John 6:27-35:  Many of the five thousand people Jesus fed in the wilderness continue to follow him throughout the countryside.  Jesus challenges them to consider the real nature of their quest.

Questions To Ponder:
1— What did seeing the bread from heaven on the ground in the wilderness tell the Israelites? (Exodus 16:1-17)
2—How do you let the peace of Christ rule in your heart? (Colossians 3:15-17)
3—What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Bread of Life? (John 8:27-35)
4—How do these texts speak to you today?
Prayer:  Almighty God, with mighty acts of power, you set your people free from slavery in Egypt and led them through the wilderness to the promised land.  Even though they complained against you, you graciously fed them with manna, bread from heaven.  In grace and mercy, you sent your Son, Jesus, to set us free from our slavery to sin.  Jesus is the true living bread from heaven.  Amen.
